Inspiration
Inspiration for this site, as well as its related assignment series, is drawn from the famous British artist, Tom Phillips, best-known for his artistic adaptation (A Humument) of a Victorian novel by W.H. Mallock entitled, A Human Document. Phillips “artistically treated” the novel to mine for and express meaning. In so doing, Phillips created a work of art with every page of the manuscript. Each page applies a variety of artistic techniques, including, but certainly not limited to: collage, painting, drawing, cartooning, etc.
The Assignment
Artistically treat a piece of text in a way that expresses some meaning about a consumer segment, one that is part of your identity: teenagers, gay/lesbian consumers, working mothers, right-wing conservatives, ethnic identities, etc...reflect upon the emotions, perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors of the consumer segment, and imbue the project with those elements.
